i’m going to be totally honest: when i was at the start line of the derby half last weekend and the gun went off for the wheelchair racers, and they flew across that line, i had to fight to keep my composure. watching them, and not even being able to fathom what they have overcome in their lives, was awe-inspiring to say the least.
grit and determination have always inspired me way more than natural talent and awesome gifts. watching somebody – like these racers – lay their heart and soul on the line for something they love to do, and will do against all odds, makes my pulse pick up, gives me an extra burst of energy and assurance. because everybody has that fire within themselves; it’s just a matter of finding it and igniting it.
don’t let your fire grow dim. don’t settle. fight, even if the obstacles seem insurmountable. when the odds seem stacked against you, that’s when you need to find a little bit of extra spark and trust that you can do this.
